Mining has a significant negative impact on all components of the environment, causing their unwanted alteration. Disturbed soils become pollution hotspots for the atmospheric air, water, fertile soil and agricultural holdings. In addition, they worsen population’s hygiene and sanitary conditions. Reclamationhas to be carried out to improve the environment and restore the productivity and national economic value of disturbed soils. The article presents a literature review of domestic and foreign experience in biological reclamation of disturbed soils. The author describes the main types of biological reclamation of degraded mined land. The article features complex characteristics of the existing methods of natural systems’ restoration inRussiaand abroad.
